Expedition Care Program

These courses are aimed at those carrying out outdoor activities to gain practical knowledge of first aid in remote settings or difficult terrain (ie wild country/hillside/mountain/water activities). The Explorer Course forms the first day of the Exploration Course. Both courses require participants to be competent in the following:

  • Aims/Principles of expedition medicine
  • Responsibilities of the Expedition First Responder
  • Primary & Secondary Assessment
  • Basic Life Support
  • Airway Obstruction
  • Wounds & Bleeding
  • Musculoskeletal Injuries
  • Burns


Additional subjects may be added as required and time permitting. They could include Shock; Bites & Stings; Altitude Illness; Environmental Injuries; Expedition Hygiene; Casualty Evacuation; Drugs; Rabies; SARS; Fractures; Spinal Injuries; Common Disorders.

There is a heavy practical element to this course, some of which may be outside (venue dependent).
